Halloween at Cory Liss Orthodontics

Last week we gave you the straight talk on candy to avoid if you're wearing orthodontic braces.

This week we want to let you know what's going on at Cory Liss Orthodontics during Halloween.
We are running the 'Guess How Many Creepy Crawlies Are In The Jar' competition - make sure you drop by the office to take a guess and have a chance of winning.

On October 28th this NW Calgary orthodontic office will be dressing up in Halloween costumes.  If you have an appointment on October 28th why don't you show up in your costume - the scarier the better!!!
Just remember to brush your teeth before your appointment - we love clean braces and scary costumes!

We are also starting to prepare backpacks for Stephen's Backpacks Society.  This is our second year supporting this organization.  If you'd like to prepare a backpack, to be given to a child this Christmas, visit Stephen's Backpacks Society website.  The site outlines the desirable contents of backpacks for children of various ages.  Once your backpack is filled, feel free to drop it off at our office between December 1st and December 6th for the Society to collect.

Are You Taking Care Of Your Orthodontic Braces?

Halloween is right around the corner.  A fun time for trick or treat but what do you get to eat if you're wearing orthodontic braces?

We admit, any toffee or licorice shouldn't even make it home.  You have to remember the stickier and chewier the candy, the more damage it can do to your braces.  But orthodontic braces don't have to be a nightmare at Halloween - just avoid anything hard and crunchy or soft and sticky!

That means you get to enjoy chocolate and treats like regular M&M's and any candy bar without caramel.

So, it's not so bad.  Have a safe, fun Halloween and remember to BRUSH and FLOSS your TEETH - regardless of what you eat.

Cory Liss Orthodontics is located in NW Calgary and provides orthodontic treatment for adults and children.  Offering the latest in orthodontic technology like SureSmile, Damon Braces and Invisalign.
Call today for your consultation - no referral required.

Calgary Orthodontic Specialist Shares Tips For A Successful Consultation

Your general dentist has recommended that you seek a consultation from a Certified Orthodontist.  You may have received preliminary information regarding the need for orthodontic treatment but are unsure what to expect at the consultation.

Calgary Orthodontist, Dr. Cory Liss, offers patients some tips to make sure that the orthodontic consultation is successful.  Below is a guideline for getting the most out of the consultation so that you can walk away with enough information to be able to make an informed decision.

1. Make sure the reason for orthodontic treatment is fully explained.
2. The orthodontist should be clear on the best time to start treatment to bring about the desired result.
3. There are many different orthodontic systems and appliances available.  The orthodontist should explain   the treatment approach and the need to use certain systems.
4. You will need to know the expected length of treatment.
5. Discussing expecations of appearance once treatment is completed will help dispell concerns and/or unrealistic hopes.
6. It's important to discuss the pros and cons of treatment - as you may be unnecessarily concerned.
7. Treatment cost and payment plan should be disclosed.

As with any health related decision, gathering the right information will make the decision easier and the treatment less prone to surprises.   Orthodontic treatment can be a rewarding experience so seek out a consultation with someone who is able to provide great information, service and results.
