Over the last few weeks we've talked about the advantages of seeing a Certified Calgary Orthodontist for your orthodontic care, and how the latest technology can erase any thoughts of uncomfortable 'train tracks' that have to be worn for years!

Orthodontic care has come along way due to advancements in technology and focus given by orthodontists  to providing treatment in an efficient, timely manner.

So now that you know you don't have to wear the big metal train tracks forever; who do you turn to when you're ready to book your orthodontic consultation in Calgary?  It's easy, you just pick up the phone and call your chosen Calgary orthodontic office.

Many people believe that a referral is required to see an orthodontist, but in fact most Calgary Orthodontists allow patients to contact their office directly to set up an appointment.  Your General Dentist is always a great resource for knowing who the orthodontist is in your area and for making initial contact; but if you know which orthodontist you want to see, go ahead and call their office directly.

Calgary Orthodontist, Dr. Cory Liss, welcomes new patients without a referral.  For more information regarding this Calgary Orthodontic office, visit their website at www.corylissortho.ca or pick up the phone and call them today 403.287.0476

The thought of getting orthodontic braces can seem overwhelming.  But the latest advances in technology makes the entire process of wearing braces so much easier.

Orthodontic systems like Damon Braces, InsigniaSmile and Invisalign know that patients are striving to straighten their teeth in as little time as possible; while experiencing little, to no, discomfort.

InsigniaSmile recognizes that each smile is unique, like an individuals fingerprints, and uses digital treatment planning along with specially made brackets and 'tailor made' wires.  This ensures that each patient's case addresses the unique characteristics so that the end result is a beautiful smile...that lasts.

At Cory Liss Orthodontics focus is given to offering patients customized orthodontic care.  This means being able to work with the latest orthodontic technology and more than one orthodontic system. Ensuring a great treatment result means treating each smile uniquely.  If you're considering orthodontic treatment, this Calgary Orthodontist welcomes new patients...no referral required.

Calgary Orthodontist Speaks About Tooth Sensitivity

You've just got new orthodontic braces; the first step towards a beautiful smile.

Maybe you're curious to know what to expect in terms of tooth sensitivity during orthodontic treatment.

It's normal for there to be some mild discomfort and sensitivity, especially after your braces initially go on or after a wire change.

Teeth move during orthodontic treatment by gentle force being applied to teeth.  This force can make teeth sensitive to other pressures like chewy, hard candy, sticky food and chewing gum - all things that should ideally be avoided during orthodontic treatment.  Try to avoid hard, chewy foods and opt for softer foods that won't add to any sensitivity.

Sensitivity can also occur while wearing braces due to an increase in plaque formation. Orthodontic brackets have a rough surface and can incease the formation of plaque - that's why it's so important to see your General Dentist while wearing braces, as regular cleanings will help keep plaque buildup to a minimum.
Your Calgary Orthodontist will explain why it's critical to keep your braces clean, with brushing and flossing, so that plaque does not stay on teeth surfaces and cause sensitivity.  Not only can unclean brackets and teeth lead to sensitivity but it may also increase your chances of tooth decay.  You don't want to end up with beautiful straight teeth, full of cavities!

Get in to the habit of always keeping your toothbrush with you and make sure you brush after every meal or and snack - and of course don't forget to floss.

Halloween Candy and Orthodontic Braces

Halloween, one of the most popular days of the year for candy lovers! But will your orthodontic braces stop you from having some treats?

Enjoying some candy when wearing braces doesn't have to be a nightmare. The first thing to remember, whenever you're thinking of eating sweet, sticky food is that your toothbrush needs to be close by so that you can give your teeth, and braces, a good brush when you're done eating.

Try to avoid Halloween candy that is really sticky and chewy - sorry no toffee this year!

The stickier or chewier the candy the more chance there is of damaging your brackets. Sticky residue will also make keeping your teeth and braces clean very challenging. Hard candy should also be avoided as the biting into anything hard could pop a bracket off - no fun!

If you're going to be having some treats this Halloween, try to chose soft chocolate, like a peanut butter cup, or something similar that will literally melt in your mouth.

Don't be scared to have fun this Halloween, but remember to brush and floss and smile!

When Is It Time To See A Calgary Orthodontist

Seeing a certified orthodontist is a great step in ensuring that your child's dental health is being well taken care of.  But when is the right time to seek an orthodontic consultation?

Orthodontists suggest that an appointment to review a child's bite should be sought around the age of 7. This is a stage in a child's development that may reveal any possible future concerns.

However, it's never too early to seek the opinion of a Calgary Orthodontist if you or your General Dentist have concerns regarding your child's bite.

Ensuring that a child's bite is healthy doesn't just involve looking at teeth, and if they are straight.
An orthodontist will pay close attention to the development of the dental arches, skeletal development along with the individual teeth.

If you, or your child, are in need of an orthodontic consultation; call us today 403-287-076.
We are happy to answer questions and arrange an appointment.

Orthodontic Braces In Calgary - What Are Your Options?

Orthodontics is certainly a sought after treatment option for pre-teen, teenagers and adults due to today's esthetically pleasing orthodontic systems.

When considering orthodontic treatment it's important to focus on the end goal - a beautiful, 'healthy smile' that lasts.

Patients seeking orthodontic care present with different needs and 'bite' challenges; therefore the treatment plan is customized by the orthodontist to meet the goals of each patient.  This means that the orthodontist is famliar and comfortable using various differnet orthodontic systems, so that the needs of the patient can be met.

Don't lose sight of what's important - a successful orthodontic case that keeps you smiling forever.
Whether it's Invisalign, SureSmile or the Damon System options are available to create your perfect smile.

Considering Braces In Calgary? Get The Straight Talk First

There's a lot of information available to the public regarding different types of braces and  orthodontic systems.  If you're considering orthodontic treatment, it can be hard to sift through the advertising to get to the important message; what orthodontic option is right for you.

Seeing a Certified Orthodontist is a good place to start, as their exposure to different techniques, philosophies and systems helps them provide the best options for their patients.

It also allows them to predict if/when treatment might be more complex because they've treated and seen so many orthodontic cases.  This knowledge and experience means that the orthodontic patient will be offered the right treatment plan for their case and be supported throughout the treatment phase.

Orthodontic treatment is an exciting time but consists of a commitment of time, funds and energy.  This commitment is shared by the orthodontist so it's important to chose the right orthodontist for you - that way you'll be smiling all the time!

Dr. Cory Liss is a certified orthodontist in NW Calgary. Call today to schedule an appointment and discover more about orthodontic options.

Great Teeth In Calgary

Now that you have your orthodontic braces on you need to pay special attention to brushing and flossing.

Remember food can get trapped around braces,

so you have to make sure that you're brushing regularly to avoid an increase risk of tooth decay.

Keep a toothbrush with you and brush after each snack and meal.  Try to avoid drinking sugary sodas and skip the chewy, sticky candies.  Eating an apple and a piece of cheese makes for a healthy snack and reduces the amount of sugars/acids in the mouth.

This Calgary Orthodontic Office wants you to have the best smile ever. That means not just straight teeth, but healthy teeth that are cavity free. Have fun on your summer vacation, but don't forget to pack your tooth brush and floss!

Did you know that having clean teeth gets you reward points at Cory Liss Orthodontics? Ask us about our new Rewards Program at your next appointment.
